JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: I wonder why the huge banners that have been put up in Islamabad at prominent locations are being ignored by those who never stop reminding us of the so-called success stories of the National Action Plan (NAP). These banners call upon Muslims to donate fitra and zakat to Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) to support people in Gaza, Syria and Burma. Who doesn’t know that the FIF is a front organisation for the Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is now operating under the disguised banner of Jamaatud Dawa? Come floods, earthquakes or other natural disasters, you will find FIF and other such sectarian-based organisations provide transportation, healthcare, shelter, food and what not. But that’s one side of their work; they make space in society through their social work, which then enables them to perform their main tasks — readying mercenaries for hate missions.
Following the APS massacre, one wonders what serious action the government has taken, other than making tall claims on NAP compliance. If we keep allowing banned outfits and their charity fronts to work freely, we shouldn’t complain about the long-term consequences that this will entail. But, perhaps, we are asking for too much; so far, we don’t even have a definite list of banned outfits. If there is any doubt, please visit the Nacta website, which itself has been under construction since the Peshawar massacre. We need to be honest with ourselves before making tall claims.
