All of us, to some extent and at least mentally, are thieves and corrupt when it comes to paying our taxes honestly.
KARACHI: This is with reference to your report of December 17 titled “Serious opposition: Besieged, govt puts RGST on hold again”.
All of us, to some extent and at least mentally, are thieves and corrupt when it comes to paying our taxes honestly. And to make matters worse, those who collect tax themselves are eager to give us tips on how to evade them — as long as we pay them a ‘fee’. RGST or no RGST, many of us steal electricity, gas, water and many other utilities as well. And by doing so, we make it financially harder for the utility provider to provide reliable and affordable services and we make it harder for those who do pay for such services — a la KESC.
We have advertisements which have slogans like ‘Zamanay ko badal do’ (‘Change the times’) but what is really needed is for us to change ourselves.
