Pakistan-Russia relations

ISLAMABAD: Your well-written editorial on June 19 on Pakistan-Russia relations deserves widespread circulation, which is hopefully in process, especially in the corridors of power.

An important contributory factor in this warming of relations that everyone should be aware of is that after decades of distinguished service by an unbroken succession of career diplomats (political appointees are never keen on purely professional posts such as Beijing, New Delhi and Moscow), Pakistan has, for the first time, a head of mission in Russia, Ambassador Zaheer Janjua, who is formidably fluent in Russian — as was superbly demonstrated when he presented his credentials to President Vladimir Putin.
