Hanging terrorists?

Letter June 22, 2015
It seems Pakistan can't stop terrorism just by hanging terrorists nor does hanging them weaken resolve of terrorists

TURBAT: On December 16, 2014, the world saw the cruel slaughter of more than 140 people, mostly schoolchildren, at Peshawar’s Army Public School. The tragic incident led the government to resort to hang terrorists who were on death row. With the moratorium on the death penalty lifted, a number of terrorists have been hanged till now but this decision has failed to ‘hang’ terrorism in Pakistan.

From time to time, we still see incidents of firing in Quetta, the killing of Hazaras, attacks on the police, the killing of political administrators and bomb blasts in cities like Karachi and Peshawar. It seems that Pakistan cannot stop terrorism just by hanging terrorists nor does hanging them necessarily weaken the resolve of terrorists. Therefore, the government must apply new tactics and policies to eradicate terrorism in the country.
