Driving on foothpaths

Letter June 22, 2015
The traffic police need to pay special attention to the problem of motorcyclists opting to ride on footpaths

ISLAMABAD: I have frequently observed motorbike drivers using footpaths during traffic jams to bypass vehicles on roads and avoid long traffic waits, specifically on Rawalpindi’s 6th Road.

Dangerously, there is no authority to hold these trespassers accountable. This area is highly crowded and with schools and colleges also present in the vicinity, there is massive foot traffic, including that of schoolchildren. The traffic police need to pay special attention to the problem of motorcyclists opting to ride on footpaths. The sooner this is done, the better it will be so as to avoid accidents and keep people safe.
