Criminal negligence

Letter June 18, 2015
The world should realise the hazardous consequences of this war that has spread to the whole region.

LAHORE: The civil war in Syria has so far cost more than 200,000 lives, besides causing huge collateral damage. It has further compelled approximately four million people to leave their dwellings and move to other countries. This complex war has also dragged the surrounding stakeholders to plunge into an unending quagmire. The war’s horrible ripple effects are being felt in the already volatile Middle East.

The criminal negligence and passive efforts made by the international community, specifically by the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is deplorable. The world should realise the hazardous consequences of this war that has spread to the whole region. The UN and the OIC should initiate robust measures to put an end to it. The conflict is benefiting no one and will only increase the predicament of the people living in Syria and the surrounding countries.
