City of darkness

Letter June 08, 2015
The government is not serious about disarming this city or about protecting its citizens

KARACHI: The dreams of our forefathers have been shattered. The expectations held by most Pakistanis yearning for a democratic government have been crushed to pieces. People are falling like flies and people are struggling for their lives.

Karachi, often termed the city of lights, has now become a city of dark shadows and fears. It has landed into the hands of violent ghosts. My heart bleeds to see the increasing number of deaths on the streets of Karachi. Armed thugs come from nowhere, shoot innocent people, and then just disappear. The government is not serious about disarming this city or about protecting its citizens. Their chief concerns are protecting their seats and seizing power.
