Seeing Injustice

Letter June 08, 2015
Worst situation is in rural, remote areas of Sindh where hundreds of thousands of people go to bed hungry every day

ISLAMABAD: Like everybody else who has heart to understand, eyes to see and ears to hear, I understand, see and hear that injustice is everywhere in our society. Our past and present ruling elite have also played their due role to commit, promote and protect injustice in the society. They have created great socio-economic disparities. As a result, we see that millions of people are kept deprived of very basic necessities such as food, potable water, shelter, healthcare and sanitation.

The worst situation is in various rural and remote areas of Sindh where hundreds of thousands of people go to bed hungry every day, dozens die each day from hunger alone and where brutalities are committed against innocent citizens. Women are being killed either in the name of the draconian tradition of ‘honour killing’ or for not being able to arrange the desired dowry items, including cars and monetary wealth.

We see that injustice is being meted out everywhere and in every form in this society, but we never bother to reflect upon the noble wisdom of Jean Jacques Rousseau who says, “To see injustice and do nothing about that means to participate in it.” Let’s all play our due roles to stop injustice and create a just society in Pakistan.
