Why does the government have to depend on indirect taxes and how long will the people of Pakistan have to suffer
LAHORE: I would like to know if the finance minister has the authority to decide the prices of petroleum products? If this is so, then why is taxpayers’ money being spent on Ogra? A regulator can only play a useful role in a free market when the government does not have a monopoly over fixing prices and private companies are responsible for fixing the sales, with the price depending on demand and supply of products in domestic and international markets. How can Ogra protect the interest of consumers when the government used petroleum marketing companies as a tool to collect revenue?
The government’s function in the present era is to not do business. Why is our government not following the trend of allowing the private sector to play its role in guiding the country towards the right direction? Why does the government have to depend on indirect taxes and how long will the people of Pakistan have to suffer at the hands of incompetent rulers?
