Car race tragedy

Letter December 13, 2010
The said event was not open to the public, those who came to see the race were all local residents.

LAHORE: This is with reference to your report of December 11 titled “Suo motu case: Apex court takes notice of drag race incident”.

I sympathise with the families of those who died in the tragic accident but one thing needs to be cleared. The said event was not open to the public, those who came to see the race were all local residents. Of course, no one is condoning the driver for what he did but one should also bear in mind that the people who came to see the race should have understood the risks associated with watching such an event in person.

Also, there were seating arrangement for people who had come to watch. Why did some of them leave these seats and come and stand by the roadside?

May the souls of those who died rest in peace.
