What makes it all the more galling is that functional hydrants are being used in the same area to fill water tankers
KARACHI: Due to the severe lack of water in North Nazimabad and North Karachi, people have been forced to dig wells in their homes or streets in order to access water. While this descent into centuries-old methods of procuring water is alarming enough on its own, what makes it all the more galling is that functional water hydrants are being used in the very same area to fill water tankers throughout the day — tankers that are then sold to residents at exorbitant prices.
If indeed the water crisis is not caused by illegal hydrants, then there is no reason why there should be and abundance in one pipeline and a shortage in another only a few metres away. The relevant authorities need to look into this and fix the issue as soon as possible.
