Reforms needed

A reformed ECP can ensure not only free and fair general election, but can also ensure transparent LG polls

LAHORE: Pakistan is a mess. The people are suffering and looking towards the military to save the country from corrupt and incompetent politicians who do not have the will or ability to depoliticise the police force, reform the administrative structure and implement the National Action Plan. However, a military takeover is not the solution to overcome the prevailing crisis.

What is perhaps needed is for the Supreme Court of Pakistan to order the reformation of institutions like the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Pakistan is suffering because of the decades of misrule by people who often end up in power because of a flawed electoral system, which has in turn fostered the present political system that has failed to serve the people of Pakistan. A reformed ECP can ensure not only free and fair general election for the various parliamentary bodies but can also ensure transparent local government elections, which are much-needed.
