Non-serious parliamentarians

Letter May 20, 2015
Its ironic that people who don't value the importance of time are the very people that make laws for the whole nation

KARACHI: I want to draw attention towards the non-serious behavior of our parliamentarians. Punctuality is the most important characteristic of all successful people. Students, officials, traders and even laymen, must all observe it. It is disappointing that our parliamentarians lack this quality. Parliament is the country’s sovereign legislative body yet its members fail to observe punctuality, especially when joint sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate are called. The people of Pakistan elect these members so that they can solve the problems of their respective constituencies.

However, once elected, they forget about their promises to the people. They discuss their own problems instead of finding solutions to the problems of those who they represent. It is ironic that people who do not value the importance of time are the very people that make laws for the whole nation. Parliamentarians should respect their job obligations. I appeal to the people at the helm of affairs to take notice of the lack of punctuality and the non-serious behaviour of our parliamentarians. They should be fined or punished for being late so that they understand the value of time.
