Eliminating this evil practice can only be done by educating the public, our government and religious leaders
LAHORE: After reviewing various news stories on dowry, I realise that it is the most burdensome custom in connection with marriage in Pakistani society. It is well-entrenched in most parts of the country and a large number of girls cannot find suitable matches for the simple reason that their parents cannot afford dowry.
Without public awareness, this cancer cannot be wiped out from our society. Eliminating this evil practice can only be done by educating the public, our government and religious leaders. We must all come forward to form a strong public opinion against the practice of dowry.
