A message is being sent that Islamic politics will not be given any legitimate space within the system
KARACHI: The recent verdict by an Egyptian court sentencing former president Mohamed Morsi and 100 others to death is a seriously disturbing one. Not only is the decision a reflection of General Sisi’s dictatorial stance, it is a decision which can have long-lasting and seriously damaging consequences around the globe.
A message is being sent that Islamic politics will not be given any legitimate space within the system. This verdict has the capability of giving legitimacy (rather excuse) to militants who refuse to become part of the system to bring any desired change and are involved in violence across the world. Anyone and everyone who realises that violence cannot end violence should be protesting this decision.
