Help denied

Letter May 17, 2015
The law-enforcement apparatus should be there to help the victims and not for giving them imprudent advice

KARACHI: My brother recently visited a supermarket in Karachi. When he came out of the store, two men on a motorbike pointed guns at him and demanded my brother’s cell phone. When he tried to resist, he was hit on the nose with the gun, and was injured badly. The men then snatched the phone and rushed away. When my brother approached a law-enforcement personnel who was standing not too far and requested help, he was told that it was no use going after such criminals and that he should forget about it.

This is the state of our country where we cannot entrust our law-enforcement agencies with our lives; we are all on our own. The law-enforcement apparatus should be there to help the victims and not for giving them imprudent advice.
