It seems there is no system to check the unusual price hike that has crushed the people
ISLAMABAD: In the last few years, the prices of essential commodities have shot up. This trend continues unchecked and, as a result, the majority of people — who earn meagre salaries — find it difficult to make ends meet. It seems there is no system to check the unusual price hike that has crushed the people of lower and middle-income households. The prices of essential commodities like pulses, wheat, spices and kerosene have soared beyond the buying capacity of the ordinary citizen.
It seems that the regulatory system has collapsed. Dishonest traders are taking advantage of the situation to create artificial crises in the market, pushing some people from lower and middle-income groups to take to criminal activities in order to survive. It is time our government put a halt to such greedy practices to safeguard the interests of consumers.
