Karachi bus carnage (V)

Letter May 15, 2015
While such incidents cannot be eliminated completely, it would be beneficial to analyse gun violence in the city

KARACHI: I know everybody is horrified after Karachi’s Safoora Chowk incident on May 13. Every day, innocent civilians are shot by people with firearms, stabbed, bludgeoned and run over by vehicles. In recent years, shooting incidents in Pakistan have increased dramatically. While such incidents cannot be eliminated completely, it would be beneficial to analyse gun violence in the city.

Studies show that when gun laws are weakened, gun violence increases and we end up seeing the kind of incident that occurred on May 13. The government must take action against gun violence to end such tragedies.
