A tax on breathing

Letter December 10, 2010
I have come up with a novel idea to help the country.

KARACHI: I have come up with a novel idea to help the country. So far, air is the only commodity which has not been taxed by the FBR. Assuming that every adult human breathes at least ten times a minute (the actual rate varies from twelve to twenty), by imposing a tax of one paisa on each breath, the government can raise 80 billion rupees every year. Of course, this tax should be imposed only on those one and a half million morons who already pay taxes. Our other worthy citizens shouldn't have to pay this or any other tax, since Pakistan was created especially for them to loot and plunder.
