We are pained

Letter December 10, 2010
We are pained that the author has reposed faith in what is now known to be a fabricated report to vilify India.

ISLAMABAD: Please refer to the article entitled " No conspiracy theories please" by Zafar Hilaly published on the editorial page of your newspaper on December 10. We are pained that the author has reposed faith in what is now known to be a fabricated report to vilify India. Contrary to his assertion that “what the Indian cables revealed will reverberate for a long time in Pakistan,” it has taken less than a day for the reverberations to die down.

We find it inexplicable that your paper should have carried this article on the very day when, on your front page, you have carried an apology to your readers for publishing the baseless report; we nevertheless appreciate that The Express Tribune has acknowledged that the story was published without due verification. We hope the media and analysts alike will show better judgement in regard to propaganda generated by unnamed sources.
