ISLAMABAD: How can George Fulton in his article of December 8 “Army and country” criticise the Pakistan Army in the manner that he has? If it weren’t for the military, the country would be under severe threat from the extremists on one side and India on the other. In fact, it is the one institution that is holding the country together. One only has to look at the selfless role that it played in the post-flood situation, undertaking rescue and relief on a Herculean scale. Instead of such venomous articles, the army needs, at the very least, a realisation from all of us that without it, we would be living in a most dangerous world, open to external threats from all sides.
If it weren’t for the military, Swat would still be under the rule of the Taliban and obscurantists like Mullah Fazlullah and innocent people of the valley would still have to suffer terrorists flogging women and beheading anyone who opposed them.
