Educational standards in Sindh

Letter April 14, 2015
The educational standards of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab are much better than those of Sindh

HYDERABAD: Recently, it has been reported that the matric students of interior Sindh couldn’t even read Urdu and Sindhi textbooks. The question arises: how did they pass primary classes and reach the matriculation stage? It’s quite a disgraceful situation.

After assessing the literacy rate in Pakistan and its provinces, we see that Sindh is the most literate province of the country only after Khyber-Pakhtunkhuwa and Punjab. But the question is the same: does Sindh impart better quality education than the rest of the provinces? We have to decide: do we want to focus on the quality or quantity of degree-holders? Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Sindh has the leading edge when it comes to the necessary apparatus to improve the literacy rate. However, there is a deficiency when it comes to the quality of education. The educational standards of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab are much better than those of Sindh.
