KARACHI: Being a Karachite is not easy. With the daily dose of crimes and load-shedding, now we have to face another menace known as air pollution. According to the World Health Organisation, the air pollution levels in Karachi are 89.42 per cent, and the percentage of clean air is only 10.58. This is of an alarming concern for the population as heart problems, asthma and many other diseases are spreading rapidly.
Karachi is one of the largest cities of the world and with it being an industrial hub, its air is becoming contaminated by the day. Also, the smoke from burning garbage emits carbon monoxide, which is harmful. Fumes from the vehicles and industries release sulphur dioxides, CFCs and nitrogen oxides, which harm the environment making us more susceptible to the harmful UV rays of the sun, and increases the chances of asthma, heart diseases and lung cancer.
