Discarded talent

Letter April 07, 2015
Among a rare breed of police officers, Nekokara is being punished for his people-friendly policing practices

ISLAMABAD: We live in such a callous, cruel and unjust society where one can find countless crushed humans in all walks of life because ours is a country where people do not build their careers through hard work, but through cronyism and corruption. One can see several gifted people who are not selected by the public and private sector bodies and even by many NGOs, which again are mostly profit-making entities pretending to be otherwise.

Among a rare breed of police officers, Muhammad Ali Nekokara is being punished for his people-friendly policing practices. The treatment that has been meted out to him amounts to what I call discarding and sidelining those who do their job well — with honesty, dedication and sincerity; the way the Quaid-e-Azam would have done it, no doubt, but not our present ruling elite in this country. I have personally seen several visionary young officers, who have said goodbye to this country and there are others who are searching for ways to leave this country, once and for all, because they know that men who work with honesty are not respected here.
