Tragedy in Thar

Letter April 07, 2015
Due to lack of water and food, adults, along with children, are suffering from severe dehydration and are also dying

TURBAT: Water is an essential necessity of life for humans. However, in Sindh, some 23 districts are facing an acute shortage of water. Due to lack of water and food, adults, along with children, are suffering from severe dehydration and are also dying. The death toll is increasing by the day. It is disheartening to mention that every day, seven children die in Thar because of the shortage of food or water.

I am totally shocked by this state of affairs. How can the government tolerate such a situation? How can we be blind to such a horrendous plight suffered by our own people? Our level of apathy has reached unbelievably dangerous proportions. There is a need for more empathy, more sympathy, more attention towards the plight of our fellow citizens in Thar.
