We are already paying a high price by being involved in the American war against Russia in Afghanistan
LAHORE: According to a press report, the Saudi defence ministry spokesman, Brigadier General Ahmed Asiri, has said that Pakistan has offered to join the coalition that is attacking Yemen and wants to restore the government of Mansur Hadi in that country. If the Pakistan high command has decided to send the country’s troops to protect the interests of the House of Saud, then why is Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visiting Turkey and calling a joint session of the National Assembly and the Senate to decide Pakistan’s role in Middle Eastern politics. Every student of political and international studies knows that this is essentially a war between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The concern of every Pakistani should be whether there is any danger to Pakistani national interest by getting involved militarily in the Middle East turmoil? Why isn’t America, which has been the main beneficiary of Saudi oil wealth, not helping out its ally in a more effective manner? Why is Egypt, which received $15 billion from the Gulf states, not providing troops to the Kingdom? The people of Pakistan are not interested in supporting our involvement in other’s wars. We are already paying a high price by being involved in the American war against Russia in Afghanistan. Who can deny the fact that Saudi money has played a major role in fostering extremism and sectarianism in Pakistan? I would like to request our leaders to not rent out our services to yet another foreign power. This would be against the dignity and national interest of Pakistan.
