State of health

The health sector has not been on the priority list of our successive governments

GUJRANWALA: The health sector has not been on the priority list of our successive governments. The doctor-to-patient ratio in our private and government hospitals is alarmingly.

I went to one of the well-known private sector hospitals in Lahore. On arrival, I was told that the doctor was on emergency duty so the schedule had shifted three hours onwards from the time that I was given when I scheduled my appointment. This was not the first time that I had to confront such a ‘delay due to an emergency situation’.

After waiting for five hours, it took three minutes for the doctor to diagnose and write his suggested medicines. He did not examine the reports I had brought and neither did he ask my symptoms. There were scores of patients like me. I would like to request the medical fraternity to remember that it is their duty to serve all patients in a diligent manner.
