LAHORE: This is with reference to M Ziauddin’s article, “Illogical fixations”, published in The Express Tribune on April 1. Kudos to the seasoned and truly enlightened journalist for exposing the fixations of our governments — rather, its stooges — about three pertinent economic issues.
Firstly, it is the issue of the so-called depreciation of our currency or its actual parity. The second issue is of tax exemptions given to individuals, corporations and industries as per their own self-cooked rationale without there being any actual reason for these exemptions. And thirdly, the article correctly describes the pathological resistance to bring agricultural income into the tax net. The article provides rich food for thought for those who have thinking capacity and an effective recipe to rid themselves of chronic fixations if they have the mind to do so.
