Respect for New Zealand

Letter March 31, 2015
New Zealand’s brilliant performance was the result of tremendous team work.

KARACHI: During this World Cup, New Zealand stunned cricket fans with their outstanding performance. They did not only win all their matches up till the semi-final, they also made it to the final of the tournament for the first time in history. The semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament.

New Zealand’s brilliant performance was the result of tremendous team work. Tim Southee, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum gave amazing performances. Daniel Vettori’s comeback also made a huge difference to the team’s morale. Vettori’s return to the Black Caps ranks in the One-Day International line-up in October 2014 had caused quite a stir. After more than a year of being absence due to injuries, his comeback performance against Pakistan showed the world that he still had spark in him. He started off as an 18-year-old boy, and was the youngest player for the New Zealand Test team. He went on to serve his team with full passion. In the World Cup, he gave his best picking up 18 wickets in eight games at an economy rate of 3.98 and made his team and country proud. Though New Zealand fell at the last hurdle and could not win the World Cup, they definitely earned the respect of fans from all over the world.
