A case for suo motu notice

Letter December 05, 2010
The ‘offer’ made by a cleric in Peshawar should immediately invite the notice of the Supreme Court.

LONDON: I write with reference to a report in your newspaper titled “Blasphemy case: Cleric offers Rs500,000 for Aasia’s execution” (December 4). The ‘offer’ made by a cleric in Peshawar should immediately invite the notice of the Supreme Court which should take suo motu threat of this clear incitement to violence. The man should be asked to explain himself and if he still insists on offering money to all and sundry to kill Aasia Bibi, then he should be prosecuted.
