We have a deeply patriarchal society that does not tolerate women who try and take charge of their lives.
KARACHI: This is in response to a report in your newspaper of December 2 by Ali Usman titled “Munni’s continuing woes...”.
It speaks of the harassment of women that takes place when popular songs, such as “Munni Badnaam Hui”, are played. This should be stopped. In the case of the report, it seems that a woman, named Munni, who tried to be enterprising and independent was forced to close down her shop simply because of a Bollywood song and because we have a deeply patriarchal society that does not tolerate women who try and take charge of their lives.
