When it comes to terrorist attacks, the entire Pakistani nation has had more than enough
LAHORE: In a bid to justify the mob violence by the Christian community, a very selective approach was adopted by the The Express Tribune’s editorial of March 17, 2015. According to the editorial, Christians have had enough as in the past their houses were torched and a young Christian couple was thrown into a brick kiln after being torturously paraded through their neighbourhood. So after the Lahore attack on their places of worship, many lost their long-held patience and resorted to unprecedented violence.
The discrimination that minorities face and the issue of terrorism come under entirely different domains, and must be seen and analysed differently. When it comes to terrorist attacks, the entire Pakistani nation has had more than enough. The Christian community is not the only one that has been singled out when it comes to terror attacks. Mob violence can hardly be justified on this basis. Care should be taken while justifying any illegal act by relating entirely different issues. Moreover, those who lynched the Christian couple are facing justice and it is hoped that those responsible for lynching and burning of two persons will also be brought to justice and thus no one would be allowed to take the law into their hands in the name of ‘mob justice’.
