Attack on churches

Letter March 17, 2015
We must seek answers from the officials who have had the machinery of Punjab under their wings for over five years

ISLAMABAD: Attacks on the Christian community and the burning alive of people by an uncontrolled mob pose huge questions for the Punjab government. In the past, it has made enormous claims regarding the harnessing of a well-trained police force.

In the ongoing mayhem in the Christian-dominated areas of Punjab, what measures has the provincial government taken to bring the situation under control, and moreover, how is it working to prevent suicide attacks against places of worship, which are happening at an alarming frequency? As well as innocent lives lost in the bombings, there was loss of life after the incident too in violent protests. The law-enforcement agencies completely mishandled the situation.

Who will provide justice to all those people who have suffered and paid a heavy price in the war against terror? The dark forces of destruction are planning chaos and our mishandling of these tragedies makes the culprits all the more successful. We must seek answers from the officials who have had the machinery of Punjab under their wings for over five years and still have not come to grips with the menace of religious extremism and violence.
