A total of 16 polio cases have been reported in 2015 from across Pakistan
SHIKARPUR: On March 7, 2015, new polio cases, two from district Dadu in Sindh and one from Balochistan’s Loralai district were reported. It is an alarming situation that with these three cases, a total of 16 polio cases have been reported in 2015 from across Pakistan. This is despite the fact that the government and health authorities are making all-out efforts to launch polio immunisation campaigns to vaccinate children. Polio workers perform precarious work by carrying out vaccination drives in far-flung and high-risk areas to protect children from lifelong disability. Yet, we have not been able to make our society polio-free.
It is the primary responsibility of parents to ensure that polio vaccine is administered to children. In rural areas, civil society organisations and social activists have to play an active role in creating awareness among parents about the serious problems that the polio virus can cause.
