Paying homage to the great Sadiq Faqeer

Letter March 08, 2015
People from every religion, caste and political inclination got together and paid homage to a legend

KARACHI: Sadiq Faqeer, a legendary singer of Sindh died recently, and was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Mithi, Tharparkar, on March 5. Around 10,000 people attended his funeral to pay homage to this great Sindhi singer of Sufi poetry written by Shah Latif, Sheikh Ayaz, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Baba Bulleh Shah, Sachal Sarmast and others. I have never seen so many people show up at the funeral of a Sindhi singer.

Thanks to the media, Faqeer’s final journey got wide coverage and even those who did not know him realised what a great singer he must have been in his lifetime. This showed the true spirit of Sindh, as persons from every religion, caste and political inclination got together and paid homage to a legend.
