Brave police officers

Letter February 22, 2015
The protest of the people of Khaipur conveys to the government that the nation stands by its brave officers

ISLAMABAD: How unfortunate are the people of Sindh that their feudal-based formation of the ruling class has never allowed the bureaucracy to work freely in the better interests of the people. It has always been noticed that the political leadership overrules the law, which is not only a form of moral corruption, but is also in contravention of Pakistan’s Constitution. Similarly, there is a lot of political interference in the police, impeding efforts to improve the law and order situation.

The security atmosphere of the district of Khairpur had been badly affected by criminals and dacoits in recent months, with instances of kidnapping for ransom increasing. The charge of SSP in Khairpur was given to Nasir Aftab. After taking charge as SSP, he refused to tolerate any political interference in his work. He made two teams under the supervision of SP-1 Masood Bangash and SP-2 Sajid Khokhar in order to combat lawlessness across the district. He and his team did their best and restored peace within three months. A few days back, SP-1 Bangash was transferred to Larkana from Khairpur. The decision was strongly resisted by the people of Khairpur and the government had to withdraw the transfer orders in the wake of protests. This has proved that the hand-made laws of feudal lords and rulers are no more acceptable to the people. If such sincere, brave, bold and competent officers are given a free hand, they can give positive results within days. I applaud the services of SSP Khairpur Nasir Aftab, Bangash and Khokhar. They, along with their team, deserve appreciation for their heroic performance. Moreover, the protest of the people of Khaipur is also a commendable gesture that conveys to the government that the nation stands by its brave officers and rejects every conspiracy against them.
