Living close to airports

Letter November 30, 2010
The recent air crash in Karachi shows the hazards of people living in homes close to airports and runways.

LAHORE: The recent air crash in Karachi shows the hazards of people living in homes close to airports and runways. At least three people died on the ground when the small plane hit an under-construction building. The plane is said to have crashed a few minutes after take-off which would suggest that the structure wasn’t all that far from the airport and the take-off runway.

Perhaps this is a case for the municipal authorities to look into. People should be discouraged from living in homes close to airports. Also, it should be investigated why existing residential colonies have been allowed so close to an airport as major as the one in Karachi. This needs to be investigated lest another such tragedy happens again.
