My sincere advice is that before we go into deeper complexes vis-a-vis India, let us explore motives behind such moves
LAHORE: This is with reference to the article, “The rule of Law” by Kamal Siddiqi published in The Express Tribune on February 16.
While the news related to South Korea was impressive and one wishes that the same should happen in our country as well, however, the story related to India did not impress me too much. You see, India is very similar to us in many respects and after reading the article, I started to wonder as to how something like this can happen in India, where the American president was not granted special access by the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government for his bomb-proof personal vehicle. It made me investigate the news in detail and lo and behold, I found out that the state of UP is ruled by the Samajwadi Party and not the BJP. Now you are bound to wonder as to what would have happened if the BJP was ruling the state. I doubt if the chief minister had been from the BJP, he would have taken the same stance because India is quite similar to Pakistan.
While I agree that the South Korean example can be termed to be a genuine example of implementing the rule of law, the Indian example was merely a move to politically embarrass the ruling party. My sincere advice is that before we go into deeper complexes vis-a-vis India, let us explore the motives behind such moves and learn and be impressed from the genuine ones only.
