Need for an English department

Letter February 18, 2015
I request the minister of education and vice-chancellor of the University of Sindh to establish an English department

BADIN: The University of Sindh’s Laar Campus (SULC), Badin, is providing education to students of Badin and Thatta. It is a constituent college of the University of Sindh, which was established in 2007. After the passage of three years, the college was converted into Laar Campus Badin in 2010.

Nowadays, the Laar Campus of Badin offers a four-year BBA (Hons) programme, a BS degree programme in Computer Science and Commerce as well as a two-year MBA (evening) programme. In the current scenario, knowledge of the English language is compulsory for professionals, which is the medium of instruction in different departments. It has been observed that as there is no English department on the Laar Campus of Badin, students are not equipped to speak and write in the language with ease. Local citizens, including students of Badin district, have asked that an English department be established at the Laar Campus.

I request the minister of education and vice-chancellor of the University of Sindh to establish an English department for the Badin campus so that students can enhance their skills in English, which is an essential for getting ahead in different fields, including technology, science and other subjects.
