Illegal hydrants

Letter February 18, 2015
CDA officials should visit societies to see the current state of affairs for themselves

ISLAMABAD: Water is most crucial for human lives as it is a vital source of life. The nations which use water with sense and wisdom are wise. But we are most unfortunate in this regard as we don’t take care of our water resources and are wasting them mercilessly. Our future generations may face a Somalia or Tharparkar like situation in all parts of the country in a few years because of the shrinking water table. It is also a fact that we are going to face a situation where future wars and conflicts will be over water and there may not even be enough water for drinking.

It is being brought into the notice of all sleeping officials of the government, especially those who are custodians of the citizens’ interests, such as the Capital Development Authority (CDA), that water is being illegally pumped and sold from unauthorised hydrants along the Islamabad express way from Rawat to Faizabad. CDA officials should visit societies like the River Garden, Soan Garden, Jinnah Garden, CBR, Police Foundation, PWD, Media Town to see the current state of affairs for themselves. The CDA and other civic agencies can easily find how water is commercially pumped.

The Citizens’ Awareness Drive, a civic welfare body, presents this case for consideration of those who are at the helm of affairs to save our future generations. Yes, water should be used for necessary purposes but should not be made a commercial commodity. Hopefully, the government will take serious action to stop this illegal practice.
