Mr Haider seems puzzled by the Indians’ interest in a paper like The Express Tribune.
CHANDIGARH: This is with reference to Ejaz Haider’s article of November 29 titled “Indian circus comes to town!”.
I don’t know about other Indians but the reason I regularly visit the website of your newspaper is because I want to know some alternative views. Mr Haider seems puzzled by the Indians’ interest in a paper like The Express Tribune but I think the answer is in the article itself.
For instance, take the Nira Radia tapes affair. For long I had the feeling that our media in India was being “managed” by some influential people in New Delhi and turns out that my suspicions are, at least in part, true. So I had to look elsewhere. But most American and English papers have news that caters more to a local audience/readership.
As for Pakistani papers, their views on things like Kashmir and Arundhati Roy, for instance, take some getting used to. That said, I think your paper has a delightful sub-continental flavour and the knowledge that nobody in the congress or other party office is dictating what we should read is something which attracts me.
