Pen and guitar

Letter January 12, 2015
Pakistan is run on taxes collected from its citizens and it was about time that they — taxpayers — got something back

KARACHI: This is with reference to Salman Ahmad’s article of January 10 titled “How the pen and guitar can defeat the Taliban”. I think the idea presented by Mr Ahmad is a very good one and every sincere Pakistani is worried and anxious to do something to contribute towards a movement that brings about change. Pakistan is run on the taxes collected from its citizens and it was about time that they — the taxpayers — were given something back.

While it is good to see the private sector come forward as well, such as the Edhi Foundation did with the launch of an ambulance service, that does not mean that the government steps back and stops carrying out its primary responsibilities to citizens.
