I advise Mr Haider to investigate further, correct the way in which people of Thar could be served better by the PPP
KARACHI: I refer to Taj Haider’s letter to the editor of December 28, published in response to your report of December 16. I have great admiration for Mr Haider who is one of few intellectuals left with the PPP. That said, I beg to differ with him. His figures for the number of water and solar treatment plants may be correct but has he ever tried to verify how many of these would be of practical use for ordinary people? Where the plants operate on diesel, it is either not supplied at all or if it is supplied, that is only for seven to eight hours during the entire week. There has to be a detailed survey for evaluation of size, mode of delivery, sustainability etc. of these plants for them to be effective.
Has Mr Haider gone to villages where at the age of 40 people have bent bones due to excessive fluoride? It is easy to criticise or blame the media than to fight for the establishment of local governments in which union councilors participate in actual development of the local community.
I advise Mr Haider to investigate further and correct the way in which the people of Thar could be served better by the PPP.
