An alarming situation for children

Letter January 09, 2015
Government of Pakistan and all segments of society have to play their due roles to increase the vaccination coverage

SHIKARPUR: It is really shocking that around 352,000 children under the age of five die every year in Pakistan. More than 1,800 children have died of measles and other epidemics in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in 2014 and around 204,542 children died within the last 28 days of 2014 only.

The government of Pakistan and all segments of society have to play their due roles to increase the vaccination coverage to at least 90 per cent in order to make sure that the elimination of various vaccine-preventable diseases is possible. In this way, we can prevent our children from dying or living lives of disability.
