What is India trying to do?

Letter January 06, 2015
Is the Indian establishment trying to create tensions before the forthcoming visit of President Barack Obama

RAWALPINDI: The intriguing coincidence between the start and successful conduct of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, a rare display of unity among all segments of Pakistani state and society against terrorism in the aftermath of the Peshawar tragedy and the alarming military and media campaign unleashed by India against Pakistan is a source of concern for all discerning Pakistanis. There has been a massive increase in the number and intensity of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control. At the same time, the virulent propaganda by Indian ministers and media is ceaseless.

The Indian effort to malign Pakistan reached a new high in the shape of the ridiculous claim made by Indian officials regarding the incident at sea related to a Pakistani boat. No one in Pakistan has any doubts about the hostile intent of the Narendra Modi-led government. The disturbing pace at which the already tense environment is being spoiled by the Indians raises serious questions about peace and stability in the region. Is the Indian establishment trying to create tensions before the forthcoming visit of President Barack Obama to India in a shoddy effort to take some cheap shots at Pakistan or is there a larger agenda under implementation? The Pakistani leadership needs to respond seriously to these incidents to thwart the nefarious designs of the Hindutva brigade.
