KARACHI: This is with reference to Saroop Ijaz’s article ‘“Less Democracy’ is the answer?” published in The Express Tribune on January 4, 2015. The article makes for a cogent critique of the recent steps taken in Pakistan to empower military courts instead of reforming and improving our existing civilian judiciary.
I agree with what the writer has written so candidly. In particular, his mention of the fact that no one has raised the issue of the damage done to the national fabric by military dictators such as General Ziaul Haq and General Musharraf, under whose aegis the Taliban had blossomed and flourished. It is indeed a sad state of affairs, especially in view of the long-term damage to our polity.
