Educational mindsets

Letter December 31, 2014
The real talent of an individual remains hidden as parents tend to pressurize children to adopt a certain profession

LAHORE: In Pakistan, where education or educational reforms are of least importance for governments, our society is neglecting the quality of aptitude tests that many of our students sit for on a regular basis. This is a type of ability test that tells what an individual can learn or develop in the future. As a matter of fact, the preparation for such tests should be a part of our syllabus. All institutions of public or private sector should include these kinds of tests before admitting the students since, as of now, it is applicable in just a few universities of private sector.

In our country, parents, owing to their conservative thinking, pressure children to adopt a certain profession or field. In this way, the talent of an individual remains hidden and after entering practical life, the fresh graduate can never perform well enough since he/she is just not interested in what they are doing. Such tests will help us gauge where the interests of a student stand.
