Pakistan’s Kashmir policy

Letter November 24, 2010
One would think that we would be more sensitive to the plight of Azad Kashmir as well as Indian-occupied Kashmir.

KARACHI: This is with reference to Shehzad Shah’s article “Pakistan’s self-defeating Kashmir policy”. (November 22). While the writer has made valid points regarding Indian-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan’s role in the Kashmiri militancy, he fails to mention what is going on in Kashmir. Human rights violations take place there as well and for this one need only to look at any annual report of Human Rights Watch. For one, its residents can’t get a government job without first taking an oath of loyalty to Pakistan. One would think that we would be more sensitive to the plight of Azad Kashmir as well as Indian-occupied Kashmir considering our own historical fight for independence. The media’s silence on this is even more disturbing.
