KARACHI: This is with reference to your report of November 21 titled “Citizens paying the ‘price’ for security”. Only the traffic police have the legal authority to stop any car/bike and ask for documents.
And the only right they have is to check with the CPLC under whose name a car is registered. This means that one doesn’t have to show documents of one’s vehicle to the traffic police. If a traffic constable asks for documents, we should ask him the basis on which he is making this demand. Also, it helps to be confident when dealing with the traffic police in such situations.
