KARACHI: Women have played a remarkable role in the sphere of politics and journalism in Pakistan. They played an important role in the making of Pakistan when they joined forces with men to fight for a new homeland. Fatima Jinnah, Rana Liaquat Ali Khan, Bi Amma and many others were shining examples of this legacy.
In the late 1980s, the late Benazir Bhutto emerged as a fine political leader and the first female prime minister in the Muslim world. The reason behind mentioning all this is to express the shock and sadness I felt at seeing how a female reporter was treated in a shameful manner by a mob recently. One wonders what message are we giving to the world? Are we incapable of respecting women?
